April FAQs

Hey, everyone!

In this month's devlog I wanted to do a Q+A to highlight some common questions I receive about the demo. With that last statement being this year's April Fools joke since all questions in this post are fabricated by myself to give some details for those keeping an eye on development, so jokes on me I guess, haha! On a serious note, I'd like to thank those who have given me feedback and gave my project a moment of their time, every comment matters and has the potential to motivate me with the full-version!

With that out of the way I'd like to share with you some developer insight into my game, enjoy!

Q) What inspired you to create 'Destined: Lost Fate'?

--

A) During my college years I tinkered with the idea of creating small browser games with sites like Sploder, where I established a small library of successful projects, then as time went on I wanted to delve into something more richer. Inspirations for me start over a long process and I know the end goal for 'Destined: Lost Fate' is me using my favourite story elements in a project crafted by myself with a high level of passion.

Q) How long has 'Destined: Lost Fate' been in development?

--

A) So the inspiration I spoke of before is no exaggeration; the story of 'Destined: Lost Fate' was being crafted during my college years and I even got wished well by my tutor, who only knew I was working on a story at the time. After many changes the demo was finally finished around 3 years later.

Q) What will the story look like going forward?

--

A) Things are definitely not what they seem and there are many unanswered questions to be explored. The story is roughly complete from start to finish but most changes so far have been implemented through development because I wanted to let the game flow well on its own. Dialogue and descriptions are invented during the world-building process and I don't restrict myself improvising on the final product. The demo is already far better than my original vision and I'm really proud of it! Expect a deeper story with more complex characters both new and existing, don't get lost in conclusions just yet!

Q) How long will the full game be?

--

A) I'm aiming for roughly 2-3 hours completion time minimum. I know this isn't particularly long for an RPG but the reality is I don't know until it's finished. Right now I see the demo as the first sixth of the game, but as the world opens up I expect time to progress through the story will increase. Overall the game will be as long as it has to be to deliver the best experience it can offer, nothing is set in stone just yet and it'll only get more expansive once Maria leaves Gallott.

Q) When is the release date?

--

A) This is probably the hardest question since development has slowed since the first version of the demo released last November. Feedback with the demo is minimal right now and as of writing this I don't know if the game will gain wind. I want to finish it this year because I know I'm capable of doing so, but while motivation is low I'm finding myself enjoying and experiencing new games that are out there right now and just getting lost in my passion for games again.

Q) Will there be a mobile release of the game on Android/iOS?

--

A) I'm working on it! I've actually made the page that I'll publish the demo on with my Android developer account, but I need to sort out files for the current version first. Again, motivation is my greatest nemesis aha!

Q) Could 'Destined: Lost Fate' branch off into new instalments?

--

A) At first I had ideas for a second game or maybe even a trilogy! But as time went on I simplified the story a lot and instead just wanted to put all my efforts into telling this one intertwining story. If anything, I'm convinced the story is in the best place it's ever been and it's gonna end perfectly, but that doesn't mean I can't explore other means of continuing the world the game is set in.

Q) Will the full game release for free?

--

A) Whilst this is a possibility, I do want to make it clear that I would like to get paid for my work. Even just donations from passionate fans would be awesome! Overall I want my game to release in the best possible way, whether that be paid or free. But just know it won't be much, I'm thinking like two coffees worth if it comes to it.

Q) How many people have worked on 'Destined: Lost Fate'?

--

A) Just me, EtherChimera. My friends know me as Sonny and I'm the creator of 'Destined: Lost Fate', which is a draft name that never left me. All will be explained eventually and I thoroughly enjoy working on this project! To everyone who is keeping their eyes on me or finds me in the future, thanks for taking the time to check out my site and read this post, I appreciate it!

Until next time, happy gaming! ~ EtherChimera
